Kelompok Penelitian Iklim dan Lingkungan Purba

Kelompok penelitian ini melakukan penelitian tentang variabilitas dan tren perubahan iklim dan lingkungan di masa lalu, sekarang dan masa depan pada berbagai skala spasial dan temporal untuk memahami atribusi variabilitas iklim alami dan pengaruh antropogenik. Kondisi keanekaragaman hayati masa lampau juga dipelajari untuk memahami pengaruh perubahan iklim terhadap paleobiodiversity, sehingga korelasi perubahan iklim dan lingkungan dapat dipahami. Memahami mekanisme, evolusi dan dampak dari perubahan iklim global dan lingkungan memberikan informasi penting bagi komunitas ilmiah dan pembuat kebijakan terkait interaksi antara manusia dan lingkungan dalam jangka panjang, serta membantu prediksi perubahan iklim san lingkungan di masa depan.

Berbagai data proksi iklim dan lingkungan yang terkandung dalam bermacam arsip alam seperti karang, sedimen laut, sedimen danau, pohon, bivalve, dll, digunakan untuk merekontruksi variabilitas dan tren perubahan iklim dan lingkungan dari masa ke masa. Selain itu pemodelan iklim dan lingkungan dilakukan untuk melakukan verifikasi, kalibrasi data rekonstruksi iklim dan lingkungan, sehingga proses yang bekerja di dalam dan di antara atmosfer, geosfer, dan biosfer dapat semakin dipahami untuk meningkatkan prediksi perubahan iklim dan lingkungan yang tengah berlangsung.
